Group Dance/Movement Therapy

Join a supportive community of individuals on a shared journey towards well-being. Our group sessions offer a collaborative environment where participants can connect, express themselves, and explore themes such as body awareness, self-expression, and interpersonal dynamics through movement. Together, we'll cultivate resilience, build connections, and foster a sense of belonging.

Questions?

1.   What exactly is dance/movement therapy group sessions, and how do they differ from individual therapy or traditional talk therapy groups?Dance/movement therapy group sessions involve a small group of individuals engaging in guided movement-based activities and expressive exercises facilitated by a trained therapist. Unlike individual therapy, where the focus is on one-on-one exploration, and traditional talk therapy groups, which primarily rely on verbal communication, dance/movement therapy groups emphasize the collective experience of movement and non-verbal expression. Participants have the opportunity to connect with others, share in a supportive environment, and explore personal growth through embodied practices.

2.   Do I need to have dance experience to benefit from dance/movement therapy group sessions?

No prior dance experience is necessary to benefit from dance/movement therapy group sessions. These sessions are designed to be inclusive and accessible to individuals of all movement abilities and backgrounds. Whether you're an experienced dancer or have limited movement experience, the focus is on engaging authentically with the group process and exploring personal expression through movement in a supportive community setting.

3.   How many sessions will I need to see results, and what can I expect in terms of progress in dance/movement therapy group sessions?

The number of sessions needed to see results varies depending on individual needs, goals, and the dynamics of the group. Participants may begin to notice changes in their self-awareness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal connections after several sessions. Long-term progress often involves ongoing engagement with the group process and a commitment to personal exploration and growth.

4.   How do you ensure confidentiality and privacy during dance/movement therapy group sessions?

Confidentiality and privacy are essential considerations in dance/movement therapy group sessions. Ground rules regarding confidentiality and respect for each participant's experiences are established at the beginning of the group. Participants are encouraged to share only what feels comfortable for them, and the therapist maintains a safe and supportive environment where individuals can express themselves authentically without fear of judgment or disclosure.

5.   What types of issues or concerns can be addressed through dance/movement therapy group sessions?

Dance/movement therapy group sessions can address a wide range of mental health and emotional concerns, including stress, anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, body image issues, relationship challenges, and more. By engaging in collective movement experiences, participants have the opportunity to explore themes of connection, belonging, and self-expression while building supportive relationships within the group.

6.   What are the group size and session frequency for dance/movement therapy group sessions, and what is the commitment required?

Dance/movement therapy group sessions are designed for small groups, consisting of a minimum of 2 participants and capped at 6 participants. The group therapy experience is typically structured as a package, ranging from 6 to 8 weeks in length, with sessions occurring once per week. Participants are expected to commit to the full length of the scheduled group, as continuity and mutual support within the group are integral to the therapeutic process.

7.   What happens if the group does not have enough participants to proceed?

In the event that a group does not meet the minimum number of participants required to proceed, a refund will be issued to group members who have already made payments. Alternatively, participants may choose to apply their payments to other services offered. Ensuring a supportive and engaging group dynamic is essential, and efforts will be made to maintain the integrity of the group experience.

8.   Will there be opportunities for additional group therapy sessions in the future?

Yes, group therapy services will be added in intervals to provide ongoing opportunities for participation. Be sure to stay tuned for updated group offerings, as new groups will be introduced periodically. Additionally, if you have a specific theme or focus for a group that you would like to see formed, you are encouraged to contact me with your suggestion.
